Toward a Sustainable Future: Cross-Cultural Research and Technological Innovation

Penn alumni in Beijing were invited to attend this interesting panel discussion professors from Penn and Tsinghua University. This event examined the innovative research and technologies on which leading universities in China and the United States can collaborate to increase production and reduce consumption of all forms of energy.

Introductory remarks were provided by Amy Gutmann (Penn President), Xi Chen (Vice Minister of Education), Heping Hu (Chairman, Tsinghua University Council) and were followed by a 90-minute panel discussion featuring John Bassani, Penn¡¯s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Ali Malkawi, Penn¡¯s School of Design, Eric Orts, Penn¡¯s Wharton School of Business, Ye Qi, Tsinghua School of Public Policy and Management, Yi Jiang, Tsinghua School of Architecture, Brent Christensen, Office of Environment Science, Technology and Health ¨C US Embassy, Beijing
Dadi Zhou, Energy Research Institute of the National Development and Reform Commitment. The event concluded with keynote addresses by Angang Hu, Professor at Tsinghua University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences; Director, Center for China Study and
Mike Fitts, Dean of the Law School at the University of Pennsylvania and Bernard G. Segal Professor of Law.
