Penn Parents host Class of 2014                                                   July 11, 2010

On Sunday, July 11, Penn Parents, Robert and Anne Gaybrick, hosted a reception and brunch for the Class of 2014. Local Penn alumni and current students turned out to meet new Penn parents and chat with new Penn Quakers. We are very fortunate to have such dedicated parents with a link to Beijing. Check out http://www.pennparents.org/ to learn more about Penn Parents.

Bob provided the following background so we'd know more about them.

¡°Annie and I live in the city of Washington DC and are not Penn grads. We became highly interested in Penn as a result of our sons. Our first son, Jeb, graduated from Wharton undergrad in finance and from the College with a degree in biology in 2005. Jeb now works as an equity member of a hedge fund in NYC. Our second son, William, graduated from Harvard in mathematics in 2007 and after two years of working finds himself in his second year of a joint law degree and economics Ph.D program at Yale. Drew, the third son, has completed his Wharton Finance classes, but will stay at Penn for the fall semester of 2010 to study more nanotechnology. This leaves 18 year old Jack, a rising senior at St. Albans High School in Washington. From Sept ¨C Dec of 2007 Jack and Anne lived with me here as I worked from our Beijing office. Jack studied Mandarin 6-7 hours/day. Jack and Anne returned with me to Beijing in the summers of 2008 and 2009, and again this summer and Jack continued his Mandarin study. This summer he has an internship with the Special Olympics and is working hard on his Mandarin.

Annie is a student as well as she is in the Human & Organizational Learning doctoral program at George Washington University in DC. I work as a patent attorney for a large international firm and travel frequently to China, Japan, and Korea.¡±
